Derin Basden was raised in the sweltering metropolis of Fresno, California, the worst city to live in according to Places Rated Almanac (1985). Without equal doses of Carol Burnett, Monty Python, and Star Trek, Derin would not have survived and grown to be the actor he is today.

Derin graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a BA in drama, where he received the prestigious Mask and Dagger award for excellence in acting. At Berkeley, he also trained and worked with Tony-award winning director and current Artistic Director of the Berkeley Repertory Theater, Tony Taccone. Derin furthered his studies at Circle in the Square Professional Theatre School in New York City. Also in New York, Derin was fortunate enough to work with the talented Adobe Theatre Company, and starred in the critically-acclaimed off-Broadway show Duet! A Romantic Fable, as well as the hilarious serial comedy noir Larry and the Werewolf. Derin has appeared in Guiding Light and Loving, and has done voiceover work for the hit children’s television shows Blue’s Clues and the Powerpuff Girls as well as numerous radio and television commercials.

Derin lives in Seattle with his wife, Debbie, 2-year old son, Asher, and white German shepherd, Baxter, and runs his own web design business, Spazden Design. In his free time he coaches and plays soccer, runs, cooks, and plays video games.
