Penny LeGate

"Never underestimate a blonde cowgirl from Nebraska!”

Penny's broadcasting career spans 25 years and includes hosting, reporting and producing for both television and radio.

In 1986, after a nationwide search for talent, KING TV decided Penny was the perfect person to co-host their brand new program: "Evening Magazine." Together with her on-camera cohort, Brian Tracey, the duo quickly became the most popular team on northwest television and made "Evening" the highest rated magazine show in America! After nearly a decade of hosting that program, Penny went on to create and host her own program for talk radio and develop original programming for local and national television.

In 1997, KIRO TV hired Penny to anchor morning news where she remained until accepting a position there as anchor/special projects producer. Her weekly "Making A Difference" reports profile outstanding local volunteers and have earned praise for putting the "good" back into daily news.

Penny's unquenchable thirst for adventure has taken her to the far corners of the planet. She has hiked the Himalayan mountains in India, been allowed entry into a secret Buddhist temple in Bhutan, jet-skied among killer whales in Iceland, and shakily attempted sheer rock walls in Australia's Blue Mountains. She is a firm believer in "giving back," her most recent exotic travels have been focused on humanitarian work--vaccinating children against polio in Ethiopia, assisting in the care of orphaned children in Bolivia, and helping to create a children's library in Ghana. Her special passions include the environment and helping those who have no voice--kids and animals. Among her numerous contributions, Penny co-created a furry 4-legged fundraiser called "Tuxes & Tails" which now generates more than half a million dollars a year for the local Humane Society. She has stood on the summit of Mt. Rainier TWICE to raise money for clean air, and cycled 150 miles to fight lung disease. From Nordstrom to the American Lung Association to Rotary International, Penny is in constant demand as an emcee or speaker at dozens of non-profit organizations and fundraisers--her appearances simply too numerous to list.

Penny provides speeches on the Environment; Change; Life in the News; Traveling and Lessons of Life.
